A couple of Ky opening day birds
Partner and I doubled a couple of two year olds this morning , pretty much right off the limb. I had scouted the birds yesterday and we got set up less than a hundred yards from the roost. The pair gobbled hard on the limb. We made a few calls and were cut off on every call. The birds flew down in woods sixty yards behind on blind which was set just off a pasture edge. There was no doubt they were coming straight to our avian x jake and a couple hens. Doing what two year old are supposed to do. They walked by the blind so close one them drug his wings on the side of the blind. Walked right by us and made a straight strut to decoys. And we got them to break strut just enough to drop them both. Pretty strong start to the KY season.
I was not optimistic after the Friday scout. I finally saw one of these birds late day and got a blind in the right place as it turns out. Overall I saw less birds in this area than I have ever seen preseason in last two decades. After we killed these two we scouted a lot of other ground , repeating where I had looked on Friday. Saw two other LB and only a few single hens. Don’t know what to expect tomorrow. But we are going to be out there looking.

Congrats. Funny how you always seem to luck out with blind placement. Hmm. Hope I'm as lucky Monday. Vic
