Post Sat. 28 Fall Turkey
First sorry for no pics, but got to get the son to set me up.

Took the head of Range Control out on Quantico. He has never killed a turkey. So took Patch (my dog) and headed out about 0830. We walked down this woods road for about a mile and did not see first sign. But then Patch left loose about 180 yards to our left. Less then a minute we had 2 long beards run past us and one fly. About 4 other birds we heard flying in opposite directions. Built a blind and got set up. About 2 hours later got a response and in he comes sneaking in. Roger got his first. 18.5 lb, 10.5" beard and 7/8" spurs.

Once I post pics I will elaborate a little more on the hunts. Got 2 other succesfull busts and kills.

Today and tomorrow we are having a Wounded Warrior deer hunt on base. So giving Patch a little rest.

Hope everyone is enjoying the best turkey hunting time of year. :smt002 Yea had to poke a little. :smt003

"About 2 hours later got a response" - Man, I have a lot to learn. After 20 minutes I would assume the birds were in the next county

In the fall long beards are in no hurry to get back together. Most times it's anywhere from 20 minutes very rare to hours or even the next day.
Today we had a break about 0730 and finally got a response about 0950. It was a soft yelp and then another kee yelp of a Jake but then the mother hen let lose her assembly yelps about 150 yards from our set up and that was it, she took them off. Still a great hunt with a friend and a dog.

Way to go Earl. Congrats to your son.

I had a beautiful day in the woods on the 28th, hunted hard, but couldn't find a thing. Nary a peep or sighting all day...
