Post turkeys at Lake Moomaw
I am a first time poster but have been reading post on this site for a long while. I am looking to find some information regarding hunting around lake moomaw. I have camped and fished around the lake but have never explored the mountains. I am looking to camp on the lake chase birds in the morning and wet a line in the afternoons. I have not been able to find much information about turkey hunting/pressure around the lake. Any information i have found seems to be a few years old and or someone like myself requesting information. I have not hunted the NF in many years and am hoping for a rewarding adventure. Thanks in advance for any information.

Welcome to the forum! I've never hunted in that area but know of people who do. If you're willing to put the legs to work you can find some birds in there.

We used to go every spring and camp at McClintic Point and hunted all around the lake and also down across from the Dominion power plant. There are birds there just have to hike a good bit to get to some of them. I remember when I first started going with our group you could sit at camp and blow a locator call and hear 2-3 birds in the evenings. Good luck!

thanks for the responses, figured it will be some tough hunting but am hopeful to be rewarded. at the very least it will be beautiful up in the mountains and I'm optimistic i can find one. All I'm asking is to hear one anything else will just be a bonus. good luck to all out there.
