They are dropping!!
Went out for an evening hunt yesterday in Botetourt county and found a pretty decent 10 pt right side shed in the middle of an agricultural field. This is the same buck that I have pictures of back in 2011 when he was a 3 year old. Found the shed within 50 yards of an active scrape that he works year after year. This 5 year old buck is quite impressive with mass throughout and 11 inch g2s.

Yes they are. Some friends and I did some man drives on Friday. A buck came running my way and I was able to get a good shot on him and put him down. When he hit the ground his rack fell completely off!

Yes they are. We killed some does yesterday. One of them was a young buck with his antlers already dropped. I also heard from a friend that shot an 8 point that his antlers fell off when he hit the ground

Re: They are dropping!!
They've been dropping since early December in Caroline County. They say it's due to the lack of acorn crop and the deer being in poor shape due to it.

Re: They are dropping!!
Went back two days later after I found the one shed and what do you know, I found the other side!! The two sides are almost identical and I did a rough score on it and it came out to score somewhere in the low 140's range.

Re: They are dropping!!
Last week of the season, a couple guys with us found some small sheds and one deer we shot the last week for a doe turned out to be a decent sized buck that had already dropped.

It will be interesting to see how much of an effect the lack of acorns has. I will be tracking trail cam photos until spring. The deer I killed all seemed plenty healthy despite the lack of acorns.

Re: They are dropping!!
According to Katie Martin with the VDGIF you can use an "Anterless" Tag on a deer that dropped its antlers but have to record it as an "Antlered" Buck with 0 points...
Our Club asked her this question to ensure we checked the deer properly when we turned out check books in on Sunday after the last day.
