Summer Mushrooms
Anybody out gathering any of these?
I've found good hauls of Chanterelles and some Black Trumpets and "chicken of the woods" which I leave the latter in the woods. Going to try to find some lobster mushrooms this coming weekend.

Re: Summer Mushrooms
i have to admit that l am scared of making the proper identification of the appalachian summer mushrooms...some of those species dont provide any margain for error. in the fall l'm all over the oysters and the puffballs as well as the shaggy manes out west. for several yeas l was able to fish in early fall in British Columbia and picked chanterelles and bears tooth and pine mushrooms, but l was with a guy who picked his local 'shrooms for resale to Japan and other places...misidentification was not an issue with him. locally l'm not comfortable on the summer stuff.

Re: Summer Mushrooms
I dont know a whole lot about em either GN but went with a couple guys and the Chanterelles are really hard to mistake, the only one that may get you in trouble is a "jack o lantern" but if you look at gills they really are easy to see difference. They sure are good.
I am a little more concerned with the oysters, I was thinking they had alot of look alikes.
Of course this is on the East side of your mountains and that ugly orange out there can really make finding the good ones tough, just like coaches...
