Poor Abby...
With school in the mornings and softball most Saturdays Abby has been able to get out one morning (with Dale) and yesterday afternoon. On her hunt with Dale they had gobblers all over them, but wouldn't separate for Abby to get a clear shot at just one of them. An exciting hunt for sure. On Sunday afternoon I set a blind in a field we've been seeing a few birds. At 2:30 yesterday afternoon my UPS man calls and says there are a couple gobblers in the field. (I have an extensive scouting network for just such reasons! ). I meet Abby when she gets home from school and we head for the blind and get setup. I eased out to set a decoy and spot one of the gobblers under a shade tree 100 yards away. Afraid to crawl out too far I stuck the decoy down and got back in the blind with Abby. The sun had popped out and it was nasty muggy and hot. The birds didn't respond to calling, but as soon as it clouded back up I saw them head back out in the field our direction. It ended up being 2 jakes and a big longbeard and they were headed our way! I was watching the gobblers and the thunder in the distance was getting closer. I pulled up the radar and the storm was on the door step. We sat tight and finally saw the gobblers again about 70 yards away coming up the field edge. Just as I think they were getting to where they might have seen the decoys the bottom falls out and they run for the woods. Abby and I run to the truck. Dang... 5 more minutes! It looks like she might be able to get out one more day so we'll give it another try. She's been in gobblers both hunts, just hasn't been able to catch a break!

Re: Poor Abby...
I took my boys for a drive yesterday evening too.. hoping to catch one in a field and put the sneaky sneak on him.. but alas the rain won out.. We may have two more days to hunt together to try to make up for Luke's miss earlier in the year.. good luck..

Re: Poor Abby...
Abby and my granddaughter seem in the same boat, just can't get that little break to pull the trigger. I think it will happen for them before seasons end. Now that is a network that I never heard before, on speed dial with the UPS driver. Earl
