I read in a couple books Lovett Williams and Dickinson that 3-5" per year is average and of course due to feeding, snows etc anything over 11" is tough to achieve due to rubbing on the ground.

Was wondering......I ran into three jakes last spring at the club.... they all seemed to have 5"-7" beards..... Ran inot three birds on the first Wed. of the season...The one I killed had a 10" beard.... Wondered/figured it was those same three birds that I'd passed on last spring.

I believe from the center point where the beard comes out of the skin, thats where I measure from. I say believe, not really sure where the official measuring point is.
