i have a goobler goobling on the roost he is just about a mile away. on land i dont have permission. over the river and through the woods. how can i get him to come my way. i can just barely hear him. im not sure he can hear my calls. goobles right at sun up. then a half hour later he sounds closer then he sounds to be going away. goobles bout once evry 15 min. till i go to work. the hen in the field im watching pays him or me no attention at all, just walks and picks. im on a ridge if i go closer to the goobler i go closer to the noise of the river and wont be able to hear any thing. he is about the same distance from the river i believe. how far will a gooble carry.

If he is on high ground on the roost it can carry a good ways, likewise if he is in a bottom it will sound like he's farther away than he really is.

If you can hear him and you are calling with any volume, he can hear you. As he moves with terrain he will sound nearer or farther away likewise if he faces to and fro.

he is living near a subdivision i think i thought maybe there was some backgound noise over there blocking my calls. i can only hear him when its really quiet. no road noise. sat there where some kids playing over there after nine he stopped gobblin. this may have something to do with why i do so good on mondays. im starting to think he might be penned up. thanks for the information about the calls. lately i wait till i hear him gooble try and cut him off with some cutts and yelps. doesnt seem to be working.

Three goobles in the dark off a rooster i think on Monday morn, then quiet. Nothing today. He still there just not talking.

couple sunrise gobbles then around seven started gooblin like crazy. so i made the move towards him down by the river. gooblin so much i was just gonna walk up on him. but then he shut up and dint gobble any more or else i couldnt hear it. heard a shot an hour later. do any you guys find toms using the same roost day after day. this is a new roost spot for me. if he still around and talking tommorow im gonna get him. oh i have another question how about a crow call at night or early pre dawn. they dont work during the day ever. any you guys ever try that. im positve it wouldnt spook him

I hate to be pessimistic.. but unless you can cross that river and get on his side I doubt he will fly it.. I have been hunting them for 27 years by myself and 5 before that and I have only gotten two Eastern Gobblers to fly a river with any width to it in that time.. I'm not saying it won't happen.. but just highly unlikely.. now Merriams are different they will fly one all the time..

gooblin good this morning, but he is still on the other side. steady gooblin till about 8 30 then he shuts up, i thought i might have spooked him yesterday but i guess not. i cant tell how far, i could move on him but dont want to spook anything in betwenn if there is any. course ive been in the same spot roughly, for weeks. i set up closer early in the week didnt hear any goobles. to much river noise. the river is not that big, a little bigger than a mountain trout stream ive called turkeys across it before. prolly to big to cross in the night with out getiing wet.
