spring is upon us..red bud in bloom
Today I saw the forst red bud trees starting to pop in bloom. Check the calender guys, it is Febrauary still. Never seen this before. Made a little turkey viewing round yesterday and saw some small groups of birds , appearing to be breaking up, as hard as that is to believe. I would say the biologists goal of having hens bred before the season begins will be more than fulfilled this year; at least o n the older hens.

I saw a couple of red buds in Salem this week in bloom and could not believe it. Was in the woods earlier this morning and saw a group of six birds with one strutter. Thunder sounded off and they all began to gobble. I'm all tore up now

Yeah, Its definetly starting saw at least 65 birds in a field a ways east of Fredericksburg yesterday between rain showers. Counted 27 longbeards, 6 were strutting! I stopped on a side road and watched them for 15 minutes....They were gobbling and hens and jakes were yelpin!

Dang. It's too early for the redbuds. I was hoping they'd hold off, but it looks like spring is here, ready or not!

Ah yes, just finished with the sights and sounds of the fall/winter turkey season and now the sweet smells and fresh new sights of an upcoming spring season.

Re: spring is upon us..red bud in bloom
The woods in front of my house are red with maple and popular buds. Got 3 gobblers in front of the house strutting with about 15 hens. Haven't heard any gobble yet but know a few guys that have. Want be no fruit or acorns if it keeps this up. A lot of frosty days still to come. Heck there calling for snow showers here Sunday and Monday
