Finally got a break in the weather so I could take a few new loads to the range this morning.

Here's the 40 yd 10" and 20" patterns.

13/16 oz super shot 9s, .410
Rem 1100, 27" barrel, Briley ExtraFull
1050 fps



1-5/16 oz super shot 9s, 28 gauge
CZ Woodcock, 28" barrel, Briley ExtraFull
1100 fps



1-7/8 oz, super shot 9s, 20 gauge, Rem Super Full
1050 fps


Gonna be mighty tough to tote a 12 gauge this year....

That 20 Ga. is NASTY !

is that a three inch 20...dont know how to get a ounce and 7/8 of any shot in a 2 3/4 shell myself?? or is super shot almost twice as heavy as lead?

Great patterns. 1 7/8 oz in a 20, what does a 12 hold? I shoot 3s in my 12 and only get 1 3/4 oz. I am really surprised.

Ought to kill them well.

I really cant see the need to throw money away on a 410 or a 28ga when a 12 ga will out do them all day long!!!

Unless your planning on developing your own turkey loads for the market...

It's a 3" shell. Super shot is 40% denser than lead. It's a different animal altogether.

Need? There is no need for any shotgun at all. But I'd say one man's "throwing money away" is another man's wise purchase, I guess. It's all in how you see it.

But from a practical standpoint, lots of folks have .410s for their kids. With this load, their little .410 just turned into a bonafide turkey gun.

Vic, I have a 2.25 oz 3" 12 ga load also (1210 fps, under SAAMI chamber pressures). That kind of load is not possible with lead or hevishot.

I just read an article that the primary ingredient in Heavy Shot is going up again in price, almost doubling. Many of the main manufacturers are dropping heavy shot from waterfowl loads but keeping turkey for now. What does it cost for a box of 20's now a days? Also was wondering about recoil. Noticed your stuff was going just over 1000 fps. Is that through your crono? My son is 8 and I want to take him out for turkeys and am acquiring a 20 for him. I also have a .410 that he could use but I think is a little light for this task, but maybe not with the shells you are using. Just curious.

That super shot is some wicked stuff. Looks good, can't wait to see a gobbler that went down from your loads.

Vic - I am taking my 10 year old daughter out turkey hunting this year with a 20 gauge and have great luck with the Federal Heavyweight Turkey Load - 2 3/4 inch #7. She shot a hen this fall at 25 yards, the bird went straight down. I patterned the gun for her and had her only shot some light field loads for practice. At the moment of truth she did not complain about the recoil at all. Actually I have even considered using it for myself - the gun is much lighter than my 12 and has a very nice pattern out to 40 yards - but I would keep shots to 30 just to be sure. Hope this helps.

Vic, at 1000 fps MV, the number nines have as much penetration energy (ft lbs per sq in) as lead #5s going 1175 fps. So, in those terms, my slow 13/16 oz .410 load is like a 12 gauge 1-3/4 oz load of lead 5s going 1230 fps.

So, the TSS loads make every gun and every gauge perform better, and are ideal for youngsters shooting small bored guns.

You sell your loads or market someone elses? Just wondering.
