New Years Day Surprise
Me and bro decided to hit it hard again on the line last friday and run some traps for 3 nights thru monday. Sunday morning I found this girl waiting for me, my first yote ever. 28 lb female. My bro caught a 40 lb male a few years back so we each now have one under our belts and to be honest i hope i never see another one. Much rather have the red fox. These things are pure killers, just don't belong in this part of the world in my opinion. We piled up another 5 red fox, 3 coons, the yote, a 44 lb beaver and at least another dozen or more rats. Still got some season left so we aint throwing in the traps just yet.

Re: New Years Day Surprise
Yea, it was a two man effort to skin it, i pulled while bro did the cutting, what a stinking, literally, and tough critter. The hide still stinks!! 42 inch from nose to base of tail so it should be a 2XL. Don't know much about the yote fur but it seems fairly short, might be rubbed so it might not go for much money, time will tell. If they were all i had to trap i might take up golf!

Re: New Years Day Surprise
BM,
Might want to see if there are any local fox and hound clubs around. A bud of mine down in VA sells his yotes to them for $50 a piece. The yotes kill foxes and then the clubers don't have anything to hunt. Just a thought. Congrats!

Re: New Years Day Surprise
It was just a basic step down dirthole set, set for fox, trap was a 40 year old stock victor 1.5 coilspring single staked with about 18 inches of rebar. Got lucky to hold onto that one. Lure was more than likely something from carmens line. We never use any bait, just lure right on the dirt in the bottom of the hole. Caught a nice red in the exact trap and spot the very next morning.
