Post Muzzleloader Season Update...
After a horrible archery season for me the McGuire family has had a pretty decent start to the muzzleloader season.

It started out on opening day for me as I managed to take a decent 7 pointer that I had a fair number of pics of and had seen a couple times during bow season. Dale had this buck walk by him earlier in the morning and he elected to pass. I didn't have it in me to let him walk! This buck circled way up the mountain from me too far for a shot, but I started using the can and grunting and he tried to circle back around downwind of me and got a little too close. At 140 yards I "smoked" him...

Amy got in on the action in what would be classified as a flash hunt. It was simple as when she got home from work he was standing in the field beside the house and she was able to retrieve the muzzleloader and make the shot. Amy doesn't get out and deer hunt a lot so this was a nice "gift buck" for her...

This weekend I slipped into one of my favorite stands that we don't hunt a lot, just when it feels right. I jumped a few deer going in, had a deer come by before first light, and then saw a good buck chase a doe by about 7:30. He was a shooter but didn't present an opportunity for a shot. About 8:30 I heard a deer trotting through the leaves to my right and I spun around in the stand and got situated. The buck was obvisouly cruising hard and I managed to get a decent look at him, tell he was mature, and make the shot on him...

My good buddy Teddy shot his buck about 30 minutes after I shot mine...

I'm saving that last buck tag for another buck that I know all too well...

It's Abby's turn this weekend as we can get the rifles out... Hope she has some luck!

Hope everyone has a great season and good luck!!

Thanks everyone!

One thing of interest to note about the 2nd buck I killed...

Since June, I have over 9,000 game camera pictures taken on this property... and not the first one of that buck. Just goes to show you that you never know when or where a buck will show up during the rut.

I'm just glad I was there when he showed up... :)
