Post got one on monday:
killed a gobbler on monday morning, weighed 22 lbs,10 1/2" beard, one spur was 1",the other one was slightly under and inch, shot in the blackwater section of scott co.links to the pics are below. im not much of a story teller but here goes: had a wonderful hunt this morning, had two gobblers over the top of the ridge from me just raising cane, but they had hens with them, then had another one come in behind and a little to the left of me about 100 yds away on a cleared ridgetop and start gobbling and struting, then the gobbler on the ridgetop pitched and flew,it actually wasnt too far away from me when it went by me,but he went on out of sight,so i wasnt sure if he had saw me and vacated the premises or he just lit on the other side of the ridge just under the top.after about 4 or 5 mins he came over the top in full strut, but he was still 70-80 yrds from me,and moving away.i would make a call and he would turn back toward me and walk my way,but then he would turn back around and go the other way, this went on several minuites.then i see movement way out in the woods from him and its 2 other turkeys moving toward him and you can probably guess what happens next.....fight!!!!i got to witness(even though i couldnt see it good for the timber)about a 10 min.fight between what i guess was 3 gobblers.i waited about 15 mins after all got quiet and i thought all the turkeys went the other way,but thier was one more hen that putted as soon as i got up,so i slipped on over the top and went all the way to valley and walked to where i figured i was below where the gobblers might have went and climbed back up about halfway and found a good spot to sit and started calling some,on the 3rd call i made,a gobbler cut loose in the next holler over from me,so i quickly repositioned, and made a couple more calls, and within 30-45 secs it came into veiw in full strut, came on around the head of the holler and when it finally got a large enough tree between us and i got my gun in position,i harvested my first gobbler this season.it was a great morning!!!!!
