GS SCores another Tenn Gobbler
Kenny asked me to post this for him. Congrats again on a great hunt. Awesome foggy pic too.
Climbed up the hill through the thick fog back to the
spot where I killed my first gobbler last Sun morning.
Waited on top the hill with wet feet(heavy due and
leaky boots) listing for the first gobble. About
6:30am one started gobbling down the other side on
posted land. I stood there for a little while and
listened to make sure there wasn't another one near
by. There wasn't.
After calling and hearing the gobbler come almost to
the top of the hill he started to drift away to the
east with at least one hen. I sat there thinking about
moving down the hill 50-60 yds to the edge of the hay
field, that seems to be where they always end up at.
I got up once and started to move but sat back down, I
was afraid they might already be somewhere in the
field that I couldn't see.
I called a time or two again without hearing a peep.
So I decieded I would just wait and see what happened.
The heavy fog was just starting to lift good when I
saw movement to my right (west). It was a hen looking
at my decoy. She came on to the decoy and was fussing,
then another hen came to the decoy. Then here comes
two gobblers strutting straight to the decoy with the
hen still fussing. I had to let them get seperated
before I could shoot. Weight 19# 9 3/4" beard 1"
spurs.
