Appalachian Trail Confusion
Growing up in Bland County we used the Appalachian Trial for a way to get into and out of hunting spots. When I moved to Roanoke County over seven years ago, I started to hear how that was illegal. Never did bother to look it up until tonight.
For anyone that has wondered....
Quote:
Hunting is allowed on more than half of the Appalachian Trail. This comes as a shock to many hikers, but hunting has been a traditional outdoor-recreation use of the land along many sections of the Trail, both on public and private lands, and fishing and hunting groups are among the biggest supporters of protection of public lands.

Of course if you do use this as a way to get into a hunting spot, be sure to remember safety.
