Took a nice one last week
Got out by myself last wed ,mid morn . got on a gobbler that was on a little knob that was real open, a real pretty spot and a perfect place to strut . So I didn't even try to call him off there, I just listened to him and was waiting to see what he would do when he went down the other side away from me a little. I took the oppourtunity to slip up in there and got close as I dared to the top of the ridge and found a tree. I called once and he came over to about 50 yds but I couldnt see him for a downed tree.( I purposely sat there so he would have to come around or over to see my position, think wide open) He moved off a little so I changed trees to get new shade then called once again, He was roaring at me and came past the blow down to the right but there was a spot he could see down my way from about 60 yds. I could only see half his body but he stood right there and gobbled occasionaly for 45 min ,everything I had was asleep as I was a statue. 2 deer walked in right past him a few feet from him and the second a big fawn actually poked him with her nose to move him a few feet and he continued to strut some and gobble!. Finally after close to an hour he moved 5-10 yds right and was blocked by a slight rise and a big oak . I shook out my arms and quickly turned a little and called over my shoulder once. He thundered back and I could already hear his foot falls anyway. He gobbled a few more times and finally stepped into view from behind the oak . He was 191/2 pds 10 in beard and 1 3/16 spurs, a beauty.
