Quote: We've all talked about patterning shotguns and I don't ever recollect anyone saying to try different chokes and loads and shoot the 2nd best pattern you come up with.
I like that, good summary
Can't tell you how many posts on patterning end up like this when Nitro's are involved. I'm guessing nearly everyone that tries them never go back to typ. brands.
I'm not trying to sell anybody any or anything, just trying to save someone a shoulder ache if they are thinking of getting serious with patterns. U'll never understand until u see the pattern on paper and in action in the field.

moving this thread back to the top since there seems to be lots of talk recently about patterns...

I didn't buy the shells to start shooting at turkeys past 40 yards.....I couldn't tell you what they do past 45 yards......I bought a new gun for this year and have shot shell/choke after shell/choke trying to find a pattern that I was satisfied with.....I'm the type that OK doesn't cut it.....If I would have bought the shells to begin with, I would have probably saved money on chokes and shells that I've tested, that are now just laying in my gun cabinet..........I rationalized the purchase to myself by sitting down and looking at all my equipment(vest, gun, $ after $ on calls that I'm satisfied with carrying, camo, trips, etc, etc).....I figure I easily tote at least $1700 worth of stuff in the woods each spring....I also play guitar, and it doesn't do much good to go buy a high end guitar and put cheap strings on it....that's the way I thought about it.

Hey Fullback24,
My gun just doesn't seem to like the HV loads for some reason.
Thanks anyway.

Hey STRIKER1300,
Sure, I love to get the shells, I got enough to make it thru this season.
Are you planning on coming to the annual cookout? If so, I'll get'em from you there. If not we'll make some arrangements.
You gotta let me pay ya for them though.

I have a Remington 870, and have tried the jellyhead and factory choke, shot 5 and 6 win HV. Remington heavyshot 5 and 6's All shot good out to 30 yards after that they fell all to pieces. Do you think I should try 4 shot or start buying more choke tubes?
