223 round??
Just purchased my first AR 15 yesterday and am curious as to what you guys would recommend for hunting coyote and foxes with? It shoots 5.56 or 223..

Re: 223 round??
You will need to figure that out. All guns are different and will shoot different ammo differently. Buy several different types of ammo and see what it likes to eat. You will know by the groups. Maybe you will luck out and get one that likes to shoot many different types, but one will stand out. My friend's gun likes the Hornady ammo.

Re: 223 round??
What brand AR? Do you know the barrel twist rate? That will help narrow down the choices but like Vic said, range time I really like the 55 grain Nosler ballistic tip in mine. If you're shooting a more traditional barrel in your AR than a heavier bullet may shoot better.

Hey man.. I got safeside's basic AR 15 A2 patrol rifle 5.56/223
I'd have to go look for the twist rate, which I'll try to do at some point soon!

Re: 223 round??
If you give them a call they should be able to tell you. Here's a good article about twist rates in the AR. If you look down toward the bottom it will give you a range of bullet weights depending on your rate... http://www.gunsandammo.com/ammo/pair-ba ... ates-ammo/

Re: 223 round??
the barrel twist rate is a mil spec 1:7 twist! ive got a buddy of mine that when January comes in, he has a couple property owners wanting some coyotes killed, so I am really interested. I know practice and shooting different rounds is the best way to figure out what shoots the best. but if I could get some what direction I should go with a round for yotes.. i'd appreciate it!
thanks guys.. keep the pics comin!

Re: 223 round??
With the 1:7 twist I would look at the 55 grain and 60 grain bullets. That twist rate will throw up to 70 grain bullets but you should find a 55 grain bullet that works. I'm a fan of Nosler ballistic tip but there are a good many 55 and 60 grain ballistic tips to choose from.
