Post May Auction at NAFA
The grades are up and the wild fur auction starts in a few days. Prices are down a lot from last year due to politics, the weather and lots of ranch fur. I got all my fur from the later half of the season up there.

I switched to the coon boards sold by MTP this year and have been very happy with the results...my coon are definatley sizing better and for the first time ever....the auction house measured every last one the same way I did.

I sent up these 4 red fox:

and this is how they graded:

RED FOX
LOT SIZE |GRADE |COLOR |CLR| QTY
498763 XL-LGE *I XD SEM 1
498766 XL-LGE *I DK SEM 1
498846 XL-LGE I-II MED FL 1
498943 MED-SML I-II MED-PL FLT 1

A couple of the better fox grades I've gotten so pleased with that 8)

First day of wild fur sales, muskrat holding good but brutal day for mink, otter, and raccoon. About 10% of my coon sold on the auction block at price 1/3 of what they were last year. A few more sold privately at low prices afterward. Private sales will probably continue to move some skins at low prices. Good to clean out the inventory though.

On a brighter note hopefully the downturn in the market will clear out some of the gold seekers brought out by last years prices.

The thing that bothers me the post is that it is very difficult to know who you can trust with trapping. The Code talked about a few weeks ago on the turkey forum is not respected by too many in trapping. Try to help somebody out and they steal a permission. Stings worse than trap theft.

About the only bright spot for me on this sale was those reds sold well. Much reduced from last year but still good money. More than 80% of the rest of my fur didn't sell. Only sold one grey....damaged and brought $2. Coon for our section is bleak and will probably not be back for a while. Feel bad for those that depend on fur money to pay the bills.

Anytime a new trapper asks for my help I always tell them.....on your permits.

It makes them go out an actively seek permission.
