The Last Check

We pulled all the traps this morning. The landscape got a skim of snow last night that is now hiding the looks of the ice. Missed a beaver at the Bachelor Hut. Sprung trap. I hate it when that happens. It's what you get when you are rusty and only playing your B game.

We didn't have much hope for the new lodge we set yesterday because from the looks above the ice the sticks holding the traps were not disturbed.

But not to be denied this extra large beaver fell to a baited conibear.



The second trap was set and had no action.

Going to let Mother Nature dictate if we will be back. The forecast is for ice making weather.

Before this property was turned over to F&G the landowner gave me permission to trap there. Below is a picture of my son when he was six years old heading out with dad to check the same pond as the beaver we caught above this morning.

In the pond we caught the beaver this morning there is a giant lodge out in the middle that we didn't dare to go to yesterday due to ice conditions.

Shawn and I were on our way to this hut. This is the same lodge twenty years ago.



I'd like to finish our line here.

All the beavers are off the boards.

Their last ride.



We ended up with 15 beavers. 6 are blanket size.

Now it is time to turkey hunt.

We met the North American Fur Auction agent in Concord Saturday.

Many thanks to TS79. Our trap line brought back great memories. I'd like to add to those experiences in the 2013-2014 trapping season.
