Put a couple of beaver traps in yesterday for a friend who has a problem. The beaver just moved in last spring and have done quite a bit of damage cutting down 15 - 20 mature trees that shaded the trout stream feeding the lake. It was raining pretty hard when I got there so I put in a couple of footholds on drowners and headed for the dry truck. Went back this morning to check and found one trap out of its bed
and the other undisturbed. Put two 330's in after resetting the footholds. Not sure if there's another beaver but it seems likely given the hut is there and a bank den is on the other side near the feed bed. We'll find out. 65 degrees today. The stream was still partially frozen yesterday. Glad to see the open water will be sticking around this week.
