It's Official. It's Hunting Season. Bamm, Bamm, Pow, Pow. The youth duck hunters are pounding away. I can hear them from three different directions from my camp that doubles as our home. The sound of the youth hunters shots bring goose bumps to my body. Bay hears them too because she will not leave me alone as I type this post. I feel very blessed to be able to live and work in my hometown of Exeter. There are so many hunting opportunities just waiting beyond our front door. Today on the incoming tide the lobster traps are coming out of the water. At this very time in seven short days Bay and I will start our third hunting season together at the Family Grounds Beaver Pond. My ears long for the whistle of the wood duck. With age, gone are the days when a full game bag signaled a successful hunt. Today it is more about the sights, sound, smell and the enjoyment of working my hunting dog. And after a long absence of accompanying his dad on youth hunts my son Shawn finishes his NRA course today so he will be eligible for a hunting license and be able to take to the field with me again in a sport I so dearly love. It's Official. It's Hunting Season. |
