Post Good morning on the duck pond...
All my buddies wanted to deer hunt on Saturday but I was in a ducky mood so I did a solo hunt on one of my little ponds.

I had a great morning. I should have had a limit but my wingshooting was a little rusty... :)

Very nice, a lot more exciting than setting in the woods looking at squirrels. Is that closest duck a gadwall?

Freddy,
Nice going on the ducks. Hunted opening day and was 2 for 2 (rarely shoot this high of a percentage) on woodies, but saw no big ducks, nor teal or gadwall. DU migration map reports are showing some birds moving down, but have yet to see them. I agree, after I get a deer or two in the freezer my sickness switches to ducks and geese. Really it's a great situation. Hunting is usually done by mid morning which leaves time for honey - DOs around the house and even a deer hunt in the pm if time allows. We had our best year ever last year and hope some northern weather pushes some birds down here soon. Good shooting and good variety.

P.S. Went 0 for 3 on mallards on Friday morning :/

Nice hunt Freddy. And yes the closest bird is a gadwall.

Nice mess of ducks Freddy! We've been seeing a mess of Gadwalls on the Rappahannock.
