Post Duck Numbers Remain Strong
Quote:
Total duck populations were estimated at 45.6 million breeding ducks on the surveyed area. This estimate represents an 11 percent increase over last year’s estimate of 40.9 million birds and is 35 percent above the 1955-2010 long-term average. This was only the fifth time in the survey’s history that the total duck population exceeded 40 million.

I saw a lot of baby ducks in Alaska on the small ponds and waterways... thought of Dale everytime I saw some. :)

Did you see any harlequins? By far the prettiest duck IMO.

Have already been thinking about the upcoming waterfowl season. I love all kinds of hunting but waterfowl has really taken a strong hold in my list of passions. Can't imagine how bad I'd really have it if we lived in a solid flyway...glad to see we'll have the opportunity to see good numbers of waterfowl again this year. Who knows, maybe this year some jewelry will make it our way again...

. . . um . . . or we could have a repeat of year before last when everything flooded so much, no waterfowl could stay. Then, a huge snowfall that buried whatever food they might have found. Then, lots of empty skies. Don't count your limit before they're shot!

Wow, don't I sound optimistic?

I'm just sayin' don't jinx the whole gig, bro!
