Post First ducks
Hey guys, at 25 years old I finally got into waterfowl hunting. Man what have I been missing! My buddy got me started a couple of weeks ago and this past Saturday I finally put a few ducks down. I wish I had gotten started sooner than I had on waterfowl, but i'm eager to make up for lost time. Just thought i would share a couple of pics.

Yeah the place we were hunting it seemed like that was all that were there. I feel fortunate for that. Any of you guys know how common a Ringneck is in Virginia?

Waterfowling ranks right up there in the addiction category with turkey hunting. Its much more gear intensive that turkey hunting, but like most things in like that require hard work, it's very rewarding. Fills that void nicely between deer season and turkey season. But be careful or you'll end up like me trying to rush to put some venison in the freezer so you can get on with the real hunting of ducks....congrats on your first.

cking,

I have been duck hunting for 18 years around here and have yet to kill a ringneck around here. I killed a couple on a trip to arkansas a few years ago. They are normally big water ducks. If it was me that duck would be at the taxidermist. Those hoodies also make awesome mounts. Congrats on the success!

Yeah that seems to be a common theme everyone has told me (and i've figured out)----my money is pretty much obsolete until the end of February. Haha. But it is worth it, it is addicting like you all have said. That Ringneck is in the freezer and im shopping around for a good, reasonably priced taxidermist. So is the Hoodie. Anyone know of a good/somewhat cheap taxidermist? My buddy gave me the number to his and he said hes extremely good. His price is $225 per duck, no matter how I want it.

I use dale carson in madison heights, va. He is in my opinion one of the best around my area. He has mounted close to 20 mounts for me. His price is very reasonable and he has a wonderful turn around time. just google carsons taxidermey and check out his site. I know peacemaker uses him also. Those ducks wll be fine in the freezer for a couple months. Congrats again.

Best guy for a duck mount close to Powhatan is Mike Gray from Hugh's Taxidermy IMO

Thats the one my deer taxidermist uses. I think I might take it to Mike King that my other buddy suggested.

Congrats man!

This is just my third waterfowl season, and I'm already with Dale: gotta get the freezer full so I can get to hunting the REAL game! Ducks! It's a whole new world out there . . . welcome to the addiction.
