Hey guys. I've been following VATurkey for a while but just created a username. I was wondering if anyone has ever attempted a Do It Yourself waterfowl hunting trip to the midwest? I am trying to gather information in hopes of puting together a hunting trip for October 2011 somewhere in NE South Dakota. Has anyone ever been on either a paid or self guided hunt to anywhere in the region? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I don't have any personal experience waterfowl hunting out west, but, as WV Boy can attest, we saw a bunch of ducks while we were turkey hunting in South Dakota. I asked the guides about the duck hunting and was told that they don't mess with them. There were a couple of times that I couldn't focus on the turkeys for all of the ducks flying around. Every pothole out there had at least 1 duck in it. I saw a bunch of blue-wing teal, mallards, pintails, shovelers and even a cinnamon teal. There are ducks to be had, but I think timing the hunt will be critical since the first freeze will push them south.
