Took a while to find the partridge. When we did, in the fir forest, the transition line from upland hardwoods to bog white cedar the dogs preformed like rock stars.
To me it was very humbling. These birds twisted and turned like disco dancers. Not one load of shot met it’s mark.
I love hunting behind these dogs. We are a team. Words seem out of place. We operate in stealth. We communicate by hand signals and whistles.
The Rex Specs earned 5 stars today. They stayed on Gracie the whole hunt. Her eyes were well protected.
How can a man miss every shot and still have the best day ever?
Just ask these two.

Forever Memory
I saw Belle take scent to my right. In an instant she turned hard left. I saw the grouse as it leaned sideways and took off. Belle got caught in the prop wash.
The grouse swung right to left. Destination a field. My brain and body were swinging hard for the intercept in the wide open.
As soon as that bird touched open air it dipped hard right turned totally horizontal and skimmed the tree line. My momentum and the trade tricks of a wise grouse saved its life as my shot charge killed blue sky.
A nano second in history that will always be remembered when I tell the tales of Belle,
