Post Shots from the field...
I am quickly realizing that shooting quality wildlife pix under wild fair chase conditions may be more difficult that shooting wildlife with gun or bow...consider the light, aperture, shutter speed, framing the shot, don't be seen....geeze...this is tough. ducks in the early morning are not easy. songbirds and belted kingfishers are a bit easier.

just thought i'd share some "shots from the field" from a recent waterfowl hunt...
the ringneck is blurred - low light and he was moving
the gadwalls are overexposed, ISO too low and subject too far
the mallards (the hen is hidden behind the drake) are underexposed

Very nice! I've never been able to get any nice ones with the cheap camera I've got no matter how hard I try.

Diablo, Getting the pic of the belted kingfishers is a rare accomplishment. Them things sure are jumpy. I cant ever get a pic of them. About the time I get ready to snap the pic, they take off. That is one of my goals, to get a pic of one. Good job

WVBOY, thanks for the comment

Todd,
just curious, what lens/glass are you shooting?
i'm shooting canon 40d with 70-300mm lens f4-5.6...which is obviously the problem in low light conditions.
also - fully zoomed and shooting with only monopod is an added degree of difficulty too...hence the blurred effect when cropped to size.
you ever shoot in parks or on reserves? great opps there for sure i am told.
thanks
JD

I use a Tamron 75-300mm f/4-5.6ld
For Christmas i am getting the Nikon 70-300 VR lens, which is suposed to be better in low light and help with camera shake.
All i have read on the lens, it should really help.
The only park i have shot at is Glen Maury park, there is good #' of deer there. Mostly everything else is all over Rockbridge county. Do a lot of shooting along the Maury River.

Nice pics Jeff. If you and Todd every get hooked up with Ben and his writing skills, well, the three of you have a money maker in the future.
