Post after the hunt
Just got home from a duck hunt on the James with Max the Dog and had a few lines running around my head. Thought I'd share them . . .

Ice in thin sheets
whines when little waves
from my waders ripple
Brittle, it breaks
it pops

Ice in little pebbles
on the fur coat he wears
Wears when it's warm
Bouncing, he wags
he smiles

Now we watch
and we wait
and we hope
and he whines

Today will he taste
the first feathers of his first winter
as my friend?

We drink the wine of winter
Dry and bitter
At first
Sweet and filling
when the day is done
and the house is warm

We watch at the windows
Watch as it snows

Now we watch
and we wait
and we hope
and he sighs
and whines
in his drunken dream

Good job Ben! You sure have a way with words.
