Got back into trout fly fishing since fully retired now and have really enjoyed this past late spring and summer. With the above average rain the mountain streams have retained good levels. Been native brook fishing all summer up around Edinburg and in the Shenandoah Park. They have been hitting the dry's all summer. The Caddis fly's and more so the terrestrial's have been doing well especially the hoppers and ants.

The left over stocked trout were active as well in the deeper pools using nymph's.

So now got lots more planning to do for fall turkey dog hunts and spring hunts and combining the two.

Wife and I went up to the Hughs river on Sun. We came off of Sky land drive. It was worth the hike down and back. I figured with all the rain we have had that the streams would be good. They had good water level and temp. Ants and beetles were the main buffet for them that day. All the brookies were 4-6 inches. Although late in the year like I said the water levels were good along with water temp. We got the trout in quickly and released them while still in the water, never handled them. We ran into 2 men and 3 women getting their flys wet. 2 of the women were by themselves so the wife and them got into quilting and crafts. Not complaining  I did have a cigar with one of the other men and park ranger, but we at least talked fishing, turkey hunting and cigars. Yes I packed out the cigar butts. But the amount of trash the park ranger was picking up was unbelievable, that was sad. Batteries, fish line, plastic bags, candy bar wrappers, cigerett butts, plastic bottles etc.
