Botetourt County rescue crews recover body from James River

Botetourt County rescue crews have recovered a body from the James River, the sheriff's office said.

Rescue crews were called about 1:15 p.m. today to an area about a mile and a half south of the Glen Wilton boat landing for a report of a possible drowning, said Major Delbert Dudding.

Dudding said that a boat capsized and a person who had been on it became trapped under a log.

The victim's name has not yet been released.

That is sad. I wonder if he was wearing a life jacket. Underwater strainers are so so dangerous. This happens every year this year the water has been way up and the underwater structures are changing and moving all the time.

According to this mornings local news, victim was not wearing a PFD and was in a raft. Who knows if the PFD would have saved his life given the current water levels, but cannot imagine that it would have hurt. Sad story.
