Summer Fun...Kids, Bluegills and Being a Kid at Heart
This past Tuesday evening we went to the big pond on a local SC farm. My son, my father in law, a good buddy, his dad and me....KIDS all of us at heart. We had a ball! Targeting big bream. Fished the big pond down near a spillway from the bank. We caught 20+ slab bluegills and red ear sunfish...plus a handful of small bass. I never casted to a bass (hunter did and caught a few on his own), I was having WAY too much fun catching those big bream!
Most of the bluegills were 8" long and almost 7" wide. I'm guessing they were 1lb to 1.25lb. We got into some BIG red ear sunfish too. The red ears were pushing 10" in many instances...likely same weight class.
What a ball! We ate well last night!
Fresh bream, fried and grilled.
Bacon wrapped quail.
Turkey nuggets and grilled turkey.
I had almost forgotten how much fun all those experiences were! already making plans for the next outing.
The big bluegills were all in this class. We think this one was the biggest...he was released along with several more like him. we had what we needed for the fish cook...had a ball catching and releasing these big boys.
The take for the evening. The speckled ones are the red ears.
