I was a die hard bowhunter. But staying married, raising sons,bird hunting, duck hunting, traveling for work, and doing side jobs on weekends tends to cut down on a man's tree time. So, I gave it up, a long time ago. I think my Hoyt Eclispse is a 1992 model. There may come a time when I get back into bow hunting, but I'm not going to do it until I can log the 40 hour weeks in a stand like I once did. All of you high school and college kids should take full advantage of your free time.
I still gun hunt. Rem 260 with a semi bull barrel built on a Czech VZ24 action. My 2013 buck. I watched him for about an hour from my stand. He and two other bucks, smaller, were checking does in a field thats off limits to hunting. Oh, I thought about it. But rules are rules and I don't want trouble over a deer. About 20 minutes before sunset he made a bee line right to the base of the tree I was perched in and crossed the fence at the funnel I cut into it several years ago. Man, I wish I had my bow that evening. He presented at 20 yards with full on stops in three places and again at 30 yards. I took the shot. He went 50 yards with no heart and collapsed in a thicket. I went home and picked up my oldest son, 12 and returned to let him track the deer with a lantern. 25 yards into the thicket he announced, "I smell him, he's close".
Didn't scale him, maybe 150 pounds.
