Post Archery Buck
I took the leave the week of Veterans Day to bow hunt with my best friend who decided to come down for the week from PA. We have hunted together for the past 20 years and always have a good time. On Saturday we decided to put a stand in a corner of the front field that we always see deer in. The thought was that my dad would hunt this stand on the gun opener. Well, Kevin sat there Monday, Veterans Day, and was covered up with deer in the morning with no shots. That night he shot two does out of the stand and said that he could have kept shooting all night. I decided that that stand would now be known as "Third Base" because its the hot corner. I sat that stand on Wednesday evening and it didn't disappoint. I was seeing does and small bucks all night. I saw a decent buck across the field at last light and tried grunting at him to bring him in. He was curious but never committed. I had given up when I heard the tell tale sound of deer walking down the edge of the field. I grabbed the bow and got ready. I had this buck come in, I grunted at him and stopped him perfectly broadside at 12 yards. He only made it about 40 yards and piled up in the field. He's a decent 8 point and made the week for me. I also knocked a doe down in that corner while leaning on a hay bale with my buddy on the rifle opener. It was a great week with a great friend. We are already looking forward to doing it again next year.

I also attacked a freak buck that is haunting my dreams and a pie ball that I couldn't get a shot on. She would have made a pretty rug. She had a doe with her that was all brown and didn't show any of the traits that her mama had.

Was the yeungling brought down from PA by your friend? I look forward to my turkey hunts in PA and good old Y beer.

Nice buck, he looks like he ate well.

Earl,

I'm pretty sure that this batch of the good stuff was procured locally, however, he did bring a case or two of black and tan with him. When I was stationed in different parts of the country I would look forward to going home to Pittsburgh where I could get some of Pottsville's finest. You can get it a lot more places these days, but it still hasn't made its way to Montana and Arizona.
