I saw some good deer this past weekend on my property in MD. I saw a total of 12 bucks including two borderline P&Y 8 pts, a 9 pt that would currently score around 110" and three or four more basket racked 8 pts. Although they are about done growing I'm hoping the three biggest deer I saw will gain a few more inches before September.

I've got 4-5 mature bucks and many yearlings hitting clover and alfalfa around my house every night. One of the big boys is an 8 point that I guess is about 130' but has an enormous body. Can't wait for opening day!

I like it being put off a week later than usual, I usually like to take off the first week of black powder, but never really wanted to take the second week. I like to be out there when season starts. I figure the deer are less spooked. On the other hand the second week of black powder the woods are not as crowded. But as for it comming in on the 5th, is good. That is more in line with most of the rutting activity in my area. My 2cents...

Post deer sightings
Hey guys, for what it's worth here are my thoughts. The last 5 years I have taken off the secomd week of muzzleloading season here in bedford wich is the only week of Bp west of the Blue Ridge. but this year I'm banking on the first week for acouple of reasons. Last year our acorns seemed to be gone by Nov. and the deer were VERY visable in the fields and food plots. Because of the increased visibility here on my farms we spotted our first shooter on the fifth and saw at least one every day untill the elevenenth. Between three guys that included two kills and three misses. This year the Full Moon is on Nov. 1 so I've joked and said that I would miss my moms funeral to be in the woods the 7,8,9,10 this year and hope for a cold front
