Early Christmas Present... with Pictures
Well ladies and gentlemen the monarch has fallen. I've been hunting this deer and another one of about the same caliber for 2 years now. I've gotten multiple photos of each but none during the day. I've also seen at least one around the farm frequently chasing does... December 23rd... To keep things short and sweet I'll fast forward to the day of harvest... We got off from work at lunch time on Friday the 23rd and I was in a lock-on stand by 3:00. The stand was hung for bow hunting and I haven't been in it since the first week of November. With all the rain lately I was hoping the deer would be bedded on high ground in a 60-70 acre cutover. About 10 min. before 5 pm two does fed passed me with two more about 75 yards behind them. As I watched them feed off I heard another deer coming and this old boy came out of the cutover at 40 yards broadside. It wasn't until he had to turn his head to go between two holly trees that I knew it was one of the big boys I had been hunting. He had two smaller bucks behind him but I quickly regrouped on him and made the 2 fatal shots at roughly 45 steps with my Browning B80... Young deer. Only weighed 142lbs but I think most of that was horns

Looks like he's at least 2 feet wide and heavy. That one should score well. What county were you hunting in Virginia?

He is 23 7/8" wide about 17 3/4" tall and pretty good mass. I love the matching kickers on the G2s... we do most of our hunting around Prince George/Sussex counties

He is a stud.. congrats.. he could be older than you think, body size is not always the indicator.. you should pull the jaw and have a bioligist look at it..
I see you must Dog Hunt as well .. They have some monsters down in that area .. I saw one the other day posted on another site from Surry that will score well over 200 inches that was killed off of dogs..

Re: Early Christmas Present... with Pictures
Yeah there have definitely been some monsters killed around our area this year. I know the buck you are talking about and it was amazing! The only sad part about the whole thing was the same guy killed a little 3 pt. that was running with the monster after he killed big boy... But there have been 3-4 killed around here that will put mine to shame... I'm going back out this afternoon after his brother. Last afternoon to still hunt, we'll be running the hounds again in the mornin'
Good luck everyone!
