Are you talking about honey locust? Deer love those! They can be like a magnet. They hold onto the pods until December and deer will eat them up.

We used to have a very large honey locust on our campus in downtown Salem. About this time of year you could count on the deer showing up to eat the pods. I hated when they cut it down for a parking lot.

I used to hunt a farm that had one also. Now I have no land to hunt with them that I have found.

We have a few towering black locust in the backyard. Our local turkey flock loves the seeds in the pods. The black locust pods shed fall and winter. The pods fall on top of the snow and are good winter turkey food.

We had a good count by a neighbor on our backyard flock yesterday. 39 turkeys call the area around our house their winter home. There are no adult gobblers in the group.
