 Dead antler?

Friend of mine killed this buck with his bow. Notice how the left antler is discolored. It looks as if that antler stopped growing sometime during the velvet stage. This antler is brittle to the point you could break it with your hands.

Don't know but the biologist said he may have injured one testicle to cause this
