This past week the state's lead deer biologist ran computer totals from phone and Internet deer checks. "It's bad news," he said. "Bad, bad news." Which, translated, means it's been a good year for deer hunters. Too good. Through Thursday, hunters had checked in 121,479 whitetails over the phone or using their computers. Plus people now used to phone and net checking and using check stations less. First year for our county going antlerless full season ( from oct to jan.). I say it's great news, we need to kill more! |

Hopefully EAB will have the desired impact. I've heard more shots this year than I ever remember hearing before. I think Matt may be underestimating the shift to electronic. Check stations are getting harder to find. As of this year the one in Goode is no longer a check station....they were one of the top in the state, checking close to 1000 deer a year at one point. Always liked going there after a hunt to see what people were bringing in. |
