Hey ridgerunner, I remember the big buck you're talking about. I knew that someone killed it but I didn't know that they used a crossbow. I wish they'd have caught the person(s) that did it.

yeah,i wanted that person caught also, but i guess they never had enough evidence to say for sure...i always figured it was an 'inside' job myself,of course anybody could have slipped in from the north side of holston river mnt. like from laurel run,and nobody would have any way of knowing they were there....

Trust me, I've done a bit of research on it myself. Don't be fooled by it...remember there's more than one rut in a year...possibly up to four one researcher says. The late births, the ones who live through the winter blitz, hold their antlers for a longer period of time. Some say it's got to do with noursihment ...itf the deer eats and nourishes itself with quality food, they'll be healthier, thus holding their antlers for extended periods of time. Hence, the reason why a lot of captive deer hold their antlers for longer periods of time.

I Was hunting the C.F. Phelps WMA in Faulquire Co a couple of years ago and a 10 pointer walked right in front of me. This was in Mid April. I would have never believed it if I had not seen it with my own two eyes. It was wierd.

I just developed some camera photos of a food plot in bedford county and got a really nice 7 pointer that looked to be a 2 year old around 90 inches or so fully intact on march 28

I saw a roadkilled buck laying on the side of route 29 north in an area called Tightsqueeze in Pittsylvania County in April of 2005. The buck had a nice tight six point rack.
