Virginia's Hunters for the Hungry program set a record in donating venison to the needy last year.
The organization -- based in Big Island -- collected and donated just under 334-thousand pounds of deer meat, more than eight thousand pounds above its goal.
Program Director Laura Newell-Furniss says that's ten times the amount of venison that was donated in the program's first year, 1991.
She says donations continue to come in but the organization needs more money to process the deer that are donated.
(Newell-Furniss says people can call 1-800-352-HUNT to help the program get meat to needy families.)
