Two very nice deer. I don't see a hole in either one, was the shot so close it just scared them to death? :)

I always liked the falling block style action. I had a sharps at one point but just couldn't carry that tank around. Maybe I needed a carbine version.

One of my new favorite calibers is the .45-70. I push a 405 grain bullet at about 1400 fps. It leaves big holes too. I have been thinking about increasing its velocity to 1500+ fps. Any experience with that?

You can see my hit in the first photo. I was shooting down and he was facing from left to right. Bullet cut the top of right lung (behind the 3rd rib) and took out the bottom of the left lung. Interesting thing is he didn't bleed one drop until he had run 20 yards and jumped a fence. On the other side of the fence I found blood and looked in the direction he had run and there he was about 60 yards away. Bucks are tough. I shot a doe with the single shot also in the exact same place and she just hit the ground and kicked a few times and expired. Doe was considerably smaller for sure.

This one did not exit. All the energy was dumped in his chest. It is amazing to me how well a big heavy bullet works.
