Read the complete story and see the contacts at http://www.turkeydog.org/legislation.html (scroll down to Washington)
Here's the short version:

"Turkey dog hunting is one of the proposals now under consideration for the 2015-2017 Washington State hunting regulation changes. There are areas in Washington where turkeys are somewhat of a nuisance, they even allow the fall harvest of two beardless birds in certain game management units. Dogs will assist hunters in harvesting birds, while eliminating the loss of any wounded birds. Please help us make Washington State the 29th state to allow dogs for turkey hunting, by commenting on the proposals for wild turkey hunting with dogs. Here is the link: http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/regulations/seasonsetting/

Click on the box 'View and Comment on Proposed Hunting Regulation Issues and Alternatives'. DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS IS SEPTEMBER 22, 2014.
On the other issue, about comments for 'Fall Turkey General Seasons', I believe 'status quo' is good. We have a lot of early and late fall seasons to chose from."

We've been working on this for 11 years. It only comes up for change every 3 years. Please make a comment at the website above.
Washington State is surrounded by states and provinces that allow dogs for turkey hunting, including Hawaii

Sent my comments in a while back but have not heard of anything yet. Its amazing by looking at your map the amount of States allow dogs for fall turkey hunting, especially what it was 20 years ago let alone 50 years ago.

Tom Fritsch will tell us when WDFW reaches a decision.

The use of turkey dogs really has gotten to be a common practice nationwide. Except for a few holdout states, many of the states simply made an error when writing their fall rules, from their game biologists not knowing, or understanding, or an irrational prejudice against the practice.

What else is amazing, is that is was you Virginia hunters who kept the tradition alive. You, your parents, grandparents and older ancestors were responsible for game biologists understanding the practice and endorsing it to other states.

The more I learn about turkey dogs, the more I realize, the place of origin, the cultivation and still the main library of knowledge of the turkey dog is and always will be Virginia.

If you're from Virginia and hunt with a turkey dog, you have good reason to be proud, because you kept the tradition alive.

When someone says 'turkey dog', they'd be better to use the more precise description: 'The Virginia turkey dog'.
