Post Northern Neck Take Two
Number 2 for the year....first bird ever harvested in May...gobbled once on the roost...after about an hour and hearing nothing decided to get up....was walking out and thought I heard a gobble again....Leaves being all the way out made getting a location difficult..decided to walk down old road...thought I heard a few more gobbles but still hard to get a direction...finally got close enough and was able to pinpoint him....once close enough to call I let him have it and boy did he respond...at one point he gobbled back nine times in a row with numerous double and triple gobbles in between...needless to say he was fired up.. A few minutes later he comes on in but holds up at about 40 yards...gobbles once..puffed up and looking...i scratch in the leaves and he walks right across a small bottom and into range....you could tell he was worn out from all the spring time chasing and fighting...only weighed 15lbs 3ozs....but had a 10 1/4 beard - longest strand at 11 inches and 1 1/8 spurs

Very nice. Hens are starting to stay on the nests longer, he was lonely.

Ahhh, the old "rustling leaves"...possibly the most effective 'close' range call ever made. ( second only to the shaking bucket of corn) .

Way to go!
