Fields vs Woods
Here is a debatable question.. Which turkeys do you think are wiser ones who spend most their days milling around fields or just the opposite ones who live their lives in the woods. One would think the one who lives near fields most their lives would be a easier bird to harvest. I think for patterning purposes they may be a little better, but I've rarely ever had a field setup go as planned, at least from the jump. I think I could go 50/50 on this one I've killed about the same amount of birds in the woods than fields. Woods turkeys are easier to sneak around on especially later and greener the season gets. My last bird last year I ki)ed the second Saturday of the season and snuck to within 70 myards of where he was roosted. I know there's a few of us who can sorta tell the difference, don't get my wrong I still think and have been outsmarted more than once by these wonderful birds.

Re: Fields vs Woods
Every long beard is a different game. Woods and /or field birds can be the easiest to kill or the hardest to kill, depending on the bird and his experience.
To me the line between easy and hard is more about hunting pressure than about terrain or field vs woods. One that has been shot at and missed, snuck up on and missed or boogered with is a far more difficult quarry than an innocent one who has not been messed with. Couple that with absence or presence of hens, and timing of mating urge in the area, and you have three factors that have a lot more to do with difficulty than fields vs woods. Just one guys thoughts.

Re: Fields vs Woods
Have to go along the lines of what GN said.
But to me the fall/winter longbeard is the hardest no matter where, with or without a dog. i.e. yesterday after a good bust with a dog a friend and I sat up for 3 hours and finally 2 did respond and start to come in. But some how they got together and that was the end of that day.
