its only a page long but contains some very interesting telemetry info on radio tracked gobblers. The ground where the research was done is flatter than most of our local hunting so they may walk further but i ve seen too many birds fly a long ways across mountain valleys to doubt our birds don't take a few long trips themselves. l have hunted right next to where this research was done.

One quote from the Field and Stream article...
“One thing we’re learning,” Collier said, “is that the birds are smarter than we are.”
Duh... I could have told them that a long time ago!!!

Some do travel farther than others, not sure it is all in the same day, but usually within a couple days. Every year there are quite a few old gobblers that make the trip from parts unknown... Florida, Kentucky, Kansas, Nebraska, etc... to GN's house March through May. Must be some kind of migration phenomenon....?

Re: How far does a gobbler travel in a day?
Good article and study. The radio/gps study done here on Quantico for only 4 years (Lady doing it got a transfer) netted about the same results with one old gobbler moving back and forth for a distance of only maybe 3/4 mile over a 2 year period. Also in the same season hunters hunting within 100 or so yards of him and no one ever got him. One that also traveled 8 miles during the spring season.
