I was at my mothers last week and the acorns were everywhere. Then made a run west of Harrisonburg and nada at all and I walked a lot. Curious what folks are seeing. Far as I'm concerned with little logging in the National Forests anymore the only fairly consistent food source left for deer/turkey/grouse is acorns. Anyway, curious what folks are finding. |

Here EBR acorns everywhere. NF in Amherst, a pretty good crop also where ive been but not a very wide sample. No game though. Lack of Management in the forest has impacted wildlife terribly for everything except bear. |

A good crop of white oaks here in the area. Beach, sawtooth and reds also looking good. A couple friends hunting in NY and seeing lots of various acorns. And seeing and killing a few turkeys. Come on Saturday. Earl |

Forgot to mention, buddy of mine watched a 6 point absolutely sucking up white oak acorns. So fast, that on 3 occasions, the deer actually choked. He said he has never heard a deer "cough" until then. |

Lots of white and scarlet in my neck as well, too many I believe. Seeing deer but not alot of heavy sign in any one spot. Seems they don't have to travel much to eat. |

Made a trip out to Rockingham County today to look for Grouse. Disappointing in that I only flushed 2 birds after walking for 4 plus hours. Least it was a nice day. Good news is there are indeed lots of groceries out there. Lots of acorns and a good many wild grapes. Good for all wildlife when nature cooperates for sure. Actually saw 4 deer in the National Forest which is damn rare these days. A good plus was there were squirrels everywhere. |
