Post Finished In VA
Well since passing on a couple long beards and deciding to forgive the other double beard I settled to end the VA with a bird that had a single beard and a couple pearl white spurs.

Got set up this morning on one of my favorite ridges in 17B. One bird roost gobbled at 0605 to my left front abut 250 yards. Another roost gobbled straight down and off too the right of the ridge I was on about 250 yards. Waited till 0615 and heard one gobble on the ground not sure which one, all the hair in my ears over the years I lost some direction of sound. I got out my Magic Box and yelped 3 times with a couple cuts on the end, he gobbled on it. Hit the box 2 more times with the same result him cutting me off on my last note. Put the box down. Got the gun ready and 10 minutes later and I still don't know how he did it but 60-70 he let out a gobble that shook and startled me. I eased my eyeballs left and seen him strutting and looking my way. I held off calling and he came out of strut and crossed a small ditch to my left. He came out of the ditch and went back in strut and then out looking for the hen that was too be on the ridge. He started walking and strutting to my left front about 35 yards when he made the mistake of raising his head and looking for the invisible hen.

Weight: 22 lbs 11 oz.
Spurs: 1 1/4 in.
Beard: 9"
Gun: Ithaca 12 ga. 30" barrels, 1936 vintage
Shell: RST pheasant load 1 1/4 oz 6 shot 2 3/4"

Not this year. Will head back to GA and try and finish there and then onto PA and NY.

Nice way to go out in Va this spring. Having just one spring tag let you be selective about your one shot opportunity and it looks like you made tbe most of it. Maybe not the double besrd but what a beautiful bird. Congrstulations and good luck for the other states.
