mentioned to a friend locally that l heard a bird gobbling while duck hunting tuesday morning with temp reading zero...he said he ha d heard one behind his house same day, ten miles away. I couldnt believe what l heard, even tho l have heard them gobbling with temps of @twenty degrees before, zero temp is a whole different world.

I can believe it. One year while hunting Ft Campbell in the winter season (JAN) the temp the whole 4 days we hunted never got above 9 degrees, the lowest was 1, although the last day it was 18 when we left. We heard gobbling every day but one. By the way that was the coldest record ever recorded for that area that week.

The 2 long beards I got this fall here in VA, both of them gobbled 2-4 times while coming in. The temps those days though were in the upper 30's.

Heading out today to help others maybe get their winter bird. With temps going up in the 50's maybe we will get some gobbling action from some long beards. The Jakes should start sounding a little more mature with their gobbling also.

Best to all.

I just think it's in your DNA GN to hang out where gobbling birds are never out of ear shot :) If you told us you heard one gobbling while fishing 10 miles off shore in the Gulf of Mexico i'd believe it!

I heard gobbling 10 days straight deer hunting and the temps were in the single digit. Poured the snow one morning and there were a bunch of geese making a lot of noise on a lake about a mile away and they had em gobbling there heads off. Hard to deer hunt with that going on lol
