Sherando Lake Rec Area
Hello all, I hope your new year has gotten off to a great start! I know it's early, but I am already thinking about spring hunting. Spring Break for my son is a little later this year, and falls during the first open week of the spring season in VA. We are planning a camping trip to Sherando Lake, but while there, we may try to slip out to find some birds. Im not looking for honey hole type info, just general information regarding the GW National Forest that surrounds Sherando Lake area. Is it a decent area for turkey hunting? Am I crazy for thinking of trying that area mid-week? Is access to ridges and creek bottoms as clear as it looks on the topos? Again, I am just looking for general info. Thanks so much for any help. PS I'm a flatlander and it's going to be great to try these mountain birds for a day or two.

I do not know the area or I'd try to help. I'm guessing that you'll be able to find some spots that are not crowded during the week. I know that the Forest can get a little crowded up here but I can still find some good spots.
